British actress Helen Mirren a nudist at heart

Oscar winning British actress Helen Mirren says she loves spending time at nude beaches.

Ananova.com reports that she said: “I am a nudist at heart. I have been on many nudist beaches. It is amazing how quickly feelings of self-consciousness disappear. Of course, it only works if everyone else is naked, too.”

She added: “I have never said ‘never again’ to nudity and I am not going to.”

Mirren won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in “The Queen”.

Trip Report: Caliente Caribe - Dominican Republic

What a wonderful trip, we spent 10 glorious days in the sun and surf.  No rain (even if it was hurricane season).  Beautiful weather and not many people taking advantage.  We were only about 25 people with a staff ratio of about 1 (staff) for every 2 people. 

The service was excellent and so was the food and beverages.  Somewhere I read that there was a up charge for premium booze?  Not true, my husband likes scotch and they have Dewars and I like Campari and there was plenty of both.  They get you anything you request, I wanted Grapefruit juice for my drink and they fresh squeased it for me daily!!! 

I also celebrated my birthday there and was presented with a cake and singing….staff and visitors alike.  Great cake for all and many other deserts too. 

Planning on returning next year, because had too much fun not too!  Would recommend to anyone, you can be social and mingle or go off on your own. 

Met people from Russia and the USA, mostly Florida people, and believe it or not, some Dominicans (not staff) even though they don’t normally believe in nudity for themselves. 

I took a tour of the various rooms and many have been renovated and all building have fresh paint.  From speaking to the manager, Caliente is still pumping money into the place and some more improvements are in the works. 

Enjoyed the snorkeling and took a lesson for skuba diving in the pool (1st one is free). The  nightly enterainment was very good.  I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, by telling what it was, but believe me it is worth every penny.  A must do on any nudists vacation.

Search for cleanest beaches

A clean beach is about more than keeping the seaweed and cigarette butts at bay.

Just ask Emily Doyle from Keep Australia Beautiful. She is currently hard at work inspecting all the beaches in Sydney for the Cleanest beach awards.

On the day we visited her on the job she was looking at Congwong and Little Congwong beaches south of Maroubra.

Even though they are only small strips of beach the lush and sheltered surroundings make them an inviting spot for a swim or a walk. Little Congwong is also one of Sydney’s most popular free beaches (that means that it’s a nude beach). So if you’re hankering for the feel of the South Pacific Ocean against all of your pale winter skin, this is the place to be. If not Congwong beach is literally a stones throw away.

The naked truth

THEY say there are 365 beaches in Antigua. It’s a neat bit of arithmetic - one beach for each day of the year - but has anyone actually counted them?

Either way, we did quite well at the Hawksbill Beach Resort which claims four of them, including Eden Beach, the only official ‘clothes optional’ stretch of sand on the island. Topless bathing is not really appreciated in Antigua, although there is an unofficial nudist beach beyond Hawksbill, but by all accounts it can only be reached by boat or perhaps voyeurs who are very strong swimmers.

Wanted: 800 bare bodies for Art Basel photo shoot

Thousands of people across the globe have dropped their drawers for artist Spencer Tunick. Sometimes, thousands at once, young and old, fit and flabby, in public squares and train stations, on frozen glaciers and desert sands.

On Oct. 8, about 800 free spirits will pose for Tunick’s camera at South Beach’s Sagamore Hotel. The event will be a fleshfest, pinks and tans and browns crowding the ivy-covered balconies.

”We’ll have them standing on chairs, so you can see more of them,” Tunick, who lives in New York, says during a recent visit to the hotel. The four images he’ll create during the installation will be unveiled in December at the Sagamore’s annual Art Basel brunch.

Go naked in the Alps

HERE’S a travel tip for anyone heading to the Austrian Alps. You have to be naked when you go into a sauna in this neck of the woods. Same goes for the steam room. And the communal showers inside the day spa area.

Yep. Totally nude. And yes, it’s men and women together.

Now, some of you who are well travelled may already know this, and delight in the freedom of baring all among strangers. But for those who aren’t familiar with spa etiquette in Europe, listen up.

Wearing a swimsuit into the sauna is considered in Europe a tad silly and even perhaps unhygienic, since the whole purpose of perching in these hot and humid rooms is to sweat.

Record turnout for nude beach race

By: thinkSPAIN: A total of 136 men, women and children took part in the annual Sopelana nude race yesterday on Barinatxe Beach. Organisers said that the continued good weather was a major factor in achieving the highest turnout since the event was first staged in 1999.

45 men, 10 women, 65 veterans and 16 minors, including the youngest competitor - a 6 year old girl from Bilbao - lined up for the start of the race at 12.30pm.
