Best of Jamaica, Grand Lido Braco’s premier food and cultural festival, kicked off yesterday with its traditional grand opening ceremony and welcome reception.
In its fifth year, the four-day event – which has become a drawing card for hundreds of visitors – seeks to expose the island’s rich cultural offerings.
Visitors and locals will be exposed to traditional cooking methods with various ethnic influences, Jamaican art and craft, local products and the island’s rich musical heritage.
Today visitors will be shown how to prepare Chinese dishes, get a look at local fashions from the Cooyah line, participate in the Appleton Mixology rum training session and watch locally filmed movies in the Jamaican Movie Marathon. Ashe, one of the island’s leading cultural performance groups will provide entertainment.
The culinary exposition continues tomorrow with lessons in Indian cuisine. The day will start with the Jablum Coffee boutique breakfast experience.
A highlight of the culminating event on Saturday will be a herb seminar where visitors get the opportunity to meet and consult with a visiting herbalist and bush doctor.
There will also be a special cooking demonstration by top local and resort chefs, led by the resort’s executive chef, Anthony Miller. Some of the island’s newest singing sensations backed by be Errol Lee and the Bare Essentials band will also feature at Best of Jamaica.
