Hedonism. Just the word makes modest folks blush. In brochures covered with plain brown wrappers, the Hedonism III resort polishes its naughty reputation. “Be wicked for a week,” it beckons. “Go skinny dipping. Don’t make your bed. Don’t call your mother.”

But what is really behind the high yellow pastel walls of Jamaica’s nude singles-couples resort? Fewer clothes and more relaxation than you imagine.

A group of Swedish women is making waves by taking their tops off at public swimming pools in a protest against what they call gender-biased rules on swim wear.About 40 women have joined the network and staged topless protests in at least three cities, said Sanna Ferm, 22, one of the founders of the group called Bara Brost, or Bare Breasts.

Airlines put a premium on travel for holidays

If you haven’t purchased holiday airline tickets, you should prepare for sticker shock.

Fares are higher to most destinations, and if you are looking at a sunny destination such as Hawaii, the Caribbean or Mexico, or a ski destination such as Vail or Aspen, be prepared to empty your wallet. Thanksgiving fares are a mixed bag, depending on where you want to go. If you can extend the holiday and depart Thanksgiving Day and return in the middle of the following week, you can find reasonable fares.

You should try to avoid return flights on Sunday, Nov. 25.

Keep an eye out for Thanksgiving fares. Travel dates will be limited, but if you must travel during this time, you can save money.

Clothing-optional life suits ex-councilman

Jay Goldby, a former Poway councilman and ex-president of that city’s Chamber of Commerce, usually greets his visitors completely naked.

“I’ve gone through some changes since I left,” said Goldby, who quit politics in 2004 after serving two terms on the Poway City Council. Former Poway City Councilman Jay Goldby is now general manager of Sun Island Resort, which calls itself “Southern California’s Premier Clothing-Free Resort.”  The most obvious change would be Goldby’s lack of clothing. Despite the sometimes blistering heat, Goldby, 67, the father of five, even skips shoes these days as he pads blissfully barefoot around the East County nudist colony he now manages.

Things to know about passports before the holiday travel season

According to the U.S. Department of State, all international fliers must have a passport - even if the flight is from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean - in order to enter or re-enter the United States. Retirees at ease in their skin show it off to lend a hand

Whew, their clothes are on. But maybe not for long.

“We’re going into the back room,” says Marion Keeler, “to take ‘em off.”

Marion, Betty, Iris, Lib, Ethelyn and Ruth Lee range in age from 73 to 83, more or less and not necessarily in that order. They have gathered in Ruth Lee’s apartment at Westminster-Canterbury retirement community to explain why they got naked to make a calendar. To explain precisely how nude they were when they dragged downstairs to the beach on a 98-degree August day and posed behind beach balls and sand chairs and big red hearts and even climbed inside gift-wrapped boxes.
